How Does My Child’s Bookshelf Work?
The books that will be visible to your child will depend on whether your child is linked to a teacher’s classroom or not. Regardless, any books on the Bookshelf should be at a level that your child can read on their own with little or no support. (For those parents of classroom students, if these books are too challenging for your reader, please let your teacher know.)
If your child is linked to a classroom, their teacher will define the best books for them to read based on their current reading skills. These books will fall into two categories:
- Reading Group Books: Your child’s teacher may organize their class into reading groups and place appropriate books (ones students can read independently) onto the Bookshelves of all students in that group.
- Individual Completed Books: Any assigned books that your child has completed for their teacher and then reread two additional times from their Book Bag will automatically be placed on their Bookshelf for independent reading.
