Interactive Word Study: Making Words
The Digital Reader has Interactive Word Study activities on select titles, as indicated by the Interactive Word Study icon. This article covers how to play the Making Words activity.
Once the book opens, expand the left rail to see the options for that book.
Then your child clicks on Making Words on the left rail next to the icon.
An opening animation will appear. The animation is a quick preview of how the game is played. When your child is ready to play, click the Begin button.
From there, the audio will prompt your child to make a word. To do so, your child will need to drag the letter tiles from the orange box to the boxes below. Alternatively, they can double click the letter tiles to send them down. If your child would like to hear the word repeated at any point, they can click on the blue replay audio button above the orange box.
After they make the word, it will be broken apart and each part will be said, followed by the word. Then your child will be prompted to change a letter to make a new word. This repeats several times.
If your child changes the wrong letter or places it in the wrong spot, the correct letter will be pulled down and said, and your child will be offered another try. If they are incorrect again, the correct letter will be pulled down and said, and then they will be moved on to the next word.
Once they've completed all of the words, they've completed the activity!
